Authorities say five people from Nebraska were seriously injured when a boat exploded at Lake of the Ozarks.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the explosion occurred Tuesday afternoon near Sunrise Beach on the Osage Arm at the 10.4 mile marker. The patrol says the boat, a 26-foot 2007 Searay Sun Deck, was secured at a dock when a mechanical problem caused a fuel-related fire around 1:40 p.m.

Boat driver James Hohenstein, 47, and Kari Hohenstein, 46, Brad Vanwinkle, 39, and two male children, ages 12 and 16 were seriously injured. A 2-year-old male suffered minor injuries.

The 16-year-old and Vanwinkle were flown to University Hospital, while three others were taken to Lake Regional Hospital for treatment.

The people on the boat are from Gretna and Elkhorn, Nebraska.
