Frank Dean Powell, 56, of Sedalia, died Monday, September 3, 2012, at his home.

He was born December 15, 1955, in Sedalia, a son of George Arthur and Anna Margaret “Marge” (Pfeiffer) Powell. On June 16, 2001, he married Nancy Winters, who survives of the home.

Frank was raised and educated in Sedalia, and attended Smith-Cotton High School. While in high school, he assisted local radio personality Jimmy Glenn broadcast the Sacred Heart High School basketball games. This was the beginning of a 20 year career as a Broadcast Journalist in Sedalia, serving as News Director of both KDRO and KSIS radio stations. He also served as Editor of the Pettis County Times (now known as the Sedalia News Journal).

He served as Chairman of the Sedalia Planning and Zoning Commission for three terms and served on the 1981 and 1991 Reapportionment Committees which drafted City Council boundaries following the census, and was elected Chairman of the 1991 Reapportionment Committee. He was appointed by the Missouri Supreme Court as the first Media Coordinator for the 18th Judicial Circuit Court in Pettis County. He served one term as President of the Country Club Estates Homeowners Association. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife, Nancy, he is survived by several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, aunt and three uncles.

Memorial services will be 11 am, Thursday, September 6, 2012, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel with Father James Betzen officiating. Friends may call after 9 am Thursday, with visitation from 10 am until service time. Private burial will take place at a later date.
