Gladys Opal Barnes, 99, of Cole Camp, died Sunday, April 12, 2015, at Good Samaritan Care Center, Cole Camp.  She was born on August 20, 1915, at Huxley, Iowa, a daughter of Burney and Clara (Lee) Tweedt.

On September 12, 1915, she was baptized at Lincoln Lutheran Church and was confirmed on November 17, 1924, at Palestine Lutheran Church, both in Huxley, Iowa.  On March 4, 1936, at Palestine Lutheran Church in Huxley, Iowa, Pastor Peter Buland united her in marriage to Haldor Martin Barnes, who preceded her in death on June 29, 1976.  This union was blessed with the gift of eight children:  David, Haldor, Geraldine, June, James, Ronnie, Dennis, and Annette.

Gladys moved with her family to a farm near Cole Camp. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Cole Camp, where she belonged to the Ladies Aid and choir and taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school.

She is survived by:
three daughters, Geraldine Heimsoth and her husband Arthur of Cole Camp, June Lueckert of Kearney, and Annette Heimsoth and her husband Kenneth of Cole Camp;
four sons, David Barnes, Haldor Barnes, James Barnes and his wife Patricia, and Dennis Barnes, all of Cole Camp;
three sisters, Mildred Brown, Francis Olson, and Wilma Shiery;
one brother, Clare Tweedt of Iowa;
fifteen grandchildren,
twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and
two great-great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Burney and Clara Tweedt, a son, Ronnie Barnes, one sister, Beulah Allen, and four brothers, Silas Kenneth Tweedt, Norman Tweedt, Donald Tweedt, and Burnie Tweedt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Cole Camp, with  Pastor Michael Boothby  officiating.  Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Cole Camp.

A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at the Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp, with visitation to follow.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Veterans Home in Warrensburg or St. John's Lutheran Church in care of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons:  David Barnes, Richard Lueckert, Gregory Lueckert, Jimmie Barnes, Anthony Heimsoth, Timothy Heimsoth, Jeffrey Barnes, and Nathaniel Barnes.  Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters:  Kris McNeal, Cindy Snow, Pam Mitarotondo, Sabrina Mitchell, Priscilla Heimsoth, Terri Siegel, and Angela Nasrallah.
