Go Ahead Unfriend that Friend of a Friend of a Friend
Late last week I decided it was time to clean up my Facebook feed. So I spent some time culling what pops up there. I hid many "friends" that I've never met and will never will meet. I hid other radio DJ's who seem to have the incessant need to friend other radio DJs and then never bother to talk to them. And I hid some friends who I actually love but whose posts just bug the crap out of me. You should do the same today because, according to WKRN, latenight TV host Jimmy Kimmel has declared today, November 17, national Facebook unfirend day.
It's not that I don't like any of these people. I just don't parituclarly need to know what's going on in their life. I don't need to know their politics. Or see their progeny playing ball, winning the science fair, posing for selfies before prom. Or really any of the things they care about. Really, I don't care because I don't know them. And, most of the time, I'm not going to get to know them.
There's obviously exceptions. Some folks are just really interesting on Facebook. There's people I have either worked with, went to school with, have meet at a convention at some point that speak to me. So they stay on my feed. And that's the point.
We should all clean up our feeds to make more space for the people we care about. The people who inspire us. The people who make us think. The people who make us laugh. So go ahead and clean up that social media feed.
