
S-C’s Young Earns Music Scholarship to UCM
Smith-Cotton High School senior Grayson Young has accepted a scholarship to perform in the band program at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.
Young, the son of Lisa and Ashley Young, is a four-year letter winner in the Smith-Cotton band program, where he has served as drum major and Low Brass Section Leader.
He has earned Gold ratings at the District Solo and Small Ensemble competitions, as well as the state solo and ensemble contests. He was selected for the All-District Band and All-District Orchestra, and was an honorable mention selection for the All-State Band.
S-C Director of Bands Andrew Fischer said, “Grayson has been a strong leader of the band program throughout his time at SCHS. He works hard, has fun, and gives memorable performances again and again. I am proud of how far he has come look forward to seeing what the future has in store for him.”
