The Sacred Heart Gremlins soccer team traveled to Westphalia Tuesday afternoon for a tough match-up with Fatima. After two overtime periods, Sacred Heart won 4-3.

Sacred Heart started off a little sluggish despite junior Josh Pacheco scoring the first goal of the game. Josh scored 4 minutes into the game with an amazing corner kick that sailed right into the net.

Fatima answered with 2 consecutive goals at the 22 minute mark and again with 3:42 left in the first half.

The score at halftime was 1-2.

Sophomore Gabriel Malacara scored a goal about 15 minutes into the second half to tie the score, but the Comets took the lead again with 16:55 left to play. Senior George Bain scored the tying goal from an assist from Josh Pacheco with 8:30 remaining. Neither team scored again, forcing the game into overtime.

The first 10-minute overtime was scoreless and the teams remained tied at 3-3.

Halfway into the second overtime, sophomore Gabriel Malacara scored the winning goal from an assist from junior Ramses Rivera-Montoya.

Final score: Sacred Heart 4, Fatima 3.

Sacred Heart is now 20-4. Fatima is now 8-16.


 

In the JV game (one 40-minute half), the Gremlins won 3-1 with goals scored by Gabriel Malacara, sophomore Noah Damlo - assisted by senior Andres Vanegas and junior Ramses Rivera-Montoya.

Sacred Heart hosts Marshall for their last regular-season game Thursday, Oct. 26 at Clover Dell Park. starting at 6:15 p.m.

The Class 2 District 6 Tournament  begins Monday with the Grems playing Odessa (8-8) at 3 p.m.
