Pettis County Sheriff's deputies were involved in a  high-speed vehicle pursuit after they attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding and improper registration on Saturday night around 9 p.m.

The pursuit, involving a white Chevy Camaro, began in the area of O Highway and US 65. The driver, later identified as Candice Wagenknecht, attempted to ram the officer's patrol vehicle during the pursuit on US 50 at speeds of over 100 mph. The chase ended in the 26400 block of Florence Road in Smithton.

Pettis County deputies and a detective with the Mid-Mo Drug Task Force took Wagenknecht into custody.

The Pettis County Prosecutor filed charges of 2nd degree assault (Class B felony), resisting arrest (Class E felony), DWI-prior offender, and driving while revoked or suspended (2nd offense). Wagenknecht's bond was set at $75,000 cash or surety.
