Horror Movies Filmed in Missouri
Halloween means costumes, candy, and scary movies! Did you know that there have been a number of famous horror movies and thrillers that were shot in The Show-Me State?
Did you happen to see the horror movie You're Next? It was written by Columbia native Simon Barrett, and was filmed in Columbia. ABC 17 says that the home featured in the film is located near the Columbia Country Club.
Sometimes They Come Back
Stephen King adaptations are huge right now. It recently became the biggest horror movie of all time. In 1991, King's short story Sometimes They Come Back was made into a TV movie. Filming locations included Liberty, Kansas City and Rocheport.
Child's Play 3
"Hi, I'm Chucky, and I'll be your friend 'til the end!" "Wanna play?" I could go on. Child's Play 3 was partially filmed at Kemper Military School in Boonville. By the way, the latest movie in the Chucky franchise, Cult of Chucky, just came out this month. It's on Netflix, and is available on DVD/Blu-ray.
Haunting of Cell Block 11
The Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City is often cited as one of the most haunted locations in the state. It's pretty spooky, which made it the perfect filming location for 2014's Haunting of Cell Block 11.

'Gone Girl' starring Ben Affleck became the No. 1 movie in America in 2014. It was shot in Cape Girardeau. The book on which the movie was based is set in Carthage, Missouri, and includes references to several other towns across the state.
The largest underground lake in the world can be found at the Bonne Terre Mine in Bonne Terre, Missouri. Some of the underwater scenes from James Cameron's science fiction film 'The Abyss' were shot there.
Escape From New York
With a title like 'Escape From New York,' one would naturally assume that the movie had to be shot in... St. Louis? Quite a lot of it, in fact, was shot in and around St. Louis. Famous locations including Union Station and the Fox Theater made appearances in John Carpenter's 1981 film.
