Kansas City's Botanical Garden, Powell Gardens, kicks off their Festival of Butterflies this weekend. The Festival of Butterflies lets visitors experience "hands-on activities, interact with expert community partners, and walk among the winged beauties in the tropical conservatory display and Native Butterfly Habitat."

There's some special events throughout the festival which runs from this weekend through August 11:

Each weekend visitors can learn about butterflies from a Powell Gardens butterfly expert and experience the release of new butterfly species into the conssrvatory. Kids can participate in the Butterfly Fashion Parade, and visitors can hear Powell Gardens horticulturist Eric Perette speak about native butterflies in Powell's native butterfly habitat.

Daily activities include walking through the tropical conservatory display as well as the Native Butterfly Habitat. Hands on family friendly drop-in activities. And access to view the Minteer Collection Butterfly Display.

Festival admission pricing is being charged for this event. Adult tickets cost $12. Senior tickets are $10. Children under twelve are $5. Parking is also $5.
