If you're nearing your golden years, you might want to consider a much-overlooked place in Missouri that has some of the most affordable home prices in the state.

What makes a Missouri town a great place to retire?

Cost of living plays a big part especially if you're on a fixed-income in retirement. Affordable homes are also a must. According to a new breakdown of Missouri retirement options shared by World Atlas, the most affordable place to retire in the state is Moberly. Why Moberly?

  • Median cost of homes is below $100,000
  • Quaint small-town vibe
  • Downtown area has lots of charm
  • Paved walking trails
  • Small fishing lake
  • Good dining out food options

Having Moberly Regional Medical Center in town was also considered a plus and they said that Moberly's population has 16% that are over the age of 65 which makes for what they call a "vibrant social network for retirees".

I've always believed that Moberly was underrated. It's an easy drive to bigger town shopping in Columbia and is an equal distance from St. Louis and Kansas City if you're in the mood to take in a major league baseball game or are gifted Chiefs tickets. I'm a big fan of small town vibes and a slow pace of life and Moberly has that in spades. You could do a lot worse for your retirement destination.
