Two engineers from Miller Structural & Forensic Engineers of Springfield, accompanied by a Sedalia Firefighter, inspected several of the buildings in the 200 block of West Main this morning just after 10 a.m., with the help of “T-2” to get a closer look.

Chief Building Official Bryan Kopp was also on scene, as were SFD Chief Irwin and SPD Chief Woolery.

The City of Sedalia utilized an administrative search warrant to conduct an internal structural assessment and test for asbestos.

Both engineers stepped out of the fire truck bucket onto the roof of 215 West Main at one point. And two inspectors were seen inside 207 West Main on the first floor.

“This is a critical step toward developing a demolition plan for both 207 and 209 W. Main, which have been formally declared dangerous buildings due to severe structural deterioration,” the City said in a facebook post on Tuesday.

“City Administrator Matthew Wirt has also coordinated with the owners of Main Street Logo at 217 W. Main, a historic structure built in 1874 and individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. While structurally sound, its close proximity to the compromised buildings increases the urgency for stabilization and preservation,” the City said.

Main Street Logo co-owner Mike Ingram emerged from his business during the process to take cell phone photos of the inspectors on the roof adjacent to his building

The main concern is for 207 and 209, and how they are connected to the other buildings in the block, located in downtown Sedalia.

Planning is under way for demolition of 207 and 209 West Main.
