Over 100 KMart and over 40 Sears locations are set to close in 2017. Among those that will be closing are KMart and Sears stores in Jefferson City.

"The decision to close stores is a difficult but necessary step as we take actions to strengthen the Company’s operations and fund its transformation," said Sears Holdings in a press release. "Many of these stores have struggled with their financial performance for years and we have kept them open to maintain local jobs and in the hopes that they would turn around. But in order to meet our objective of returning to profitability, we have to make tough decisions and will continue to do so, which will give our better performing stores a chance at success. Eligible associates impacted by these store closures will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Kmart or Sears stores.”

Liquidation sales at closing stores will begin as early as January 6. KMart in Jefferson City is located at 2304 Missouri Blvd. Sears in Jefferson City is in the Capital Mall at 3600 Country Club Dr.

KMart stores in Branson, Rolla, Springfield and St. Louis are also shutting down in 2017. A Sears store in St. Joseph is the only other Sears location in Missouri scheduled for closure.

Sears Holdings says that the stores should be closed by the end of March.
