Joan Marie Smith, 86, of Sedalia, passed away Monday, August 11, 2014, at Country Club Care Center in Warrensburg.

She was born October 1, 1927, in Boonville, daughter of George E. and Inez Bilderback Perkins. On November 12, 1947, in Pilot Grove, she married John Ezra Smith, who preceded her in death on December 15, 1975.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Smithton Baptist Church. She worked as a cook at the Old Missouri Homestead and later provided in-home care for the elderly. She enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, gardening, flowers, dancing and spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are five children: Gloria Fay Pannel (C.T.), of Versailles, John Edward Smith, of Leavenworth, KS, James Michael Smith, of Lincoln, Sheila Ann Fisher (James), of Lee's Summit, and Louis Emil Smith, of Sedalia; four grandchildren, Arthur Henderson, James Henderson, Ashley Smith and Caleb Fisher; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, George Perkins, of Sedalia.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis Perkins and Henry Perkins; and a sister, Mary Pauley.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 14, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Clifford Waterman officiating.

Casket bearers will be Jeremiah Hinshaw, Robert Pauley, James Davis, Seth Barrios, Danny Davis and Jeremy Davis.
Burial will be in Smithton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at Heckart Funeral Home.
