Johnson County Sheriff’s Reports for August 14, 2024

On the afternoon of July 29th, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sexual assault. The assault took place on NW 215 in Warrensburg. Charges of Rape in the 2nd Degree are being investigated.
Deputies observed a blue in color Ford Explorer travelling east on 50 Highway on the morning of July 30th. As Officers approached the vehicle, it appeared to be slowing down upon seeing the law enforcement vehicle. At the time, the license plate appeared to have expired tags, and the plate ended up belonging to another vehicle. Colton Ray Calvin, 36, of Knob Noster, was issued a summons for Driving While Revoked with a court date.
Deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of North West 131 Highway in Holden for a report of a disturbance on the morning of July 30th. The reporting party stated her sister, Casey Hoyt*, was yelling at an elderly man she provides care for. Hoyt was arrested for an active warrant and transported to the Johnson County Jail.
Deputies took a report of a missing person on the afternoon of July 30th in the 1900 block of SW 850 in Garden City. The reporting party stated she has not seen or heard from her niece in over a week. A BOLO was sent to surrounding agencies, and the report was forwarded to Dispatch for the niece’s information to be entered as a missing person.
On the morning of June 23rd, Deputies were travelling west on 50 Highway in the North West 700 block when they observed a sedan travelling east on 50 highway. The gray or silver sedan was travelling at what appeared to be a very high rate of speed. With radar activated, Deputies observed a reading of 100+ MPH. Upon attempting to catch up to the vehicle, it was observed on radar reaching speeds of 110 MPH. Alexis Nicole Karther, 21, of Kansas City, was cited for Careless and Imprudent Driving and released on scene.
Deputies were dispatched to a rural Holden address in the 1100 block of SW 271. As Deputies arrived on the evening of July 29th, they took information regarding a theft. Deputies learned a 72-inch tractor pulled lawn mower, numerous tools, and a large vice was stolen from the reporting parties’ property between July 15th and July 23rd. A burglary report was completed.
Early in the morning on July 31st, Deputies responded to a rural address in Warrensburg. Deputies arrived at the 200 block of SE Business 13 to investigate a domestic disturbance. On scene, Deputies interviewed both parties, who said they were breaking up, and it was just a verbal argument.
On the morning of July 31st, Deputies were dispatched to an agency assist in the 900 block of NW 750 in Centerview. The reporting party advised her father was locked in the bathroom, having a psychotic breakdown. The reporting party advised her father believes there are people outside trying to get him with firearms, and is talking out of his head. When Deputies arrived a few minutes later, the father and his wife came out of the house. The father had discharged the firearm twice while in the bathroom. The father was mumbling and making incoherent statements. The Johnson County Ambulance District Medics transported the subject to the Lee’s Summit Medical Center for evaluation. The gun was seized for safekeeping.
On the afternoon of July 31st, Deputies with the JCSO Crime Resolution Team arrested Jason Galvin, 43, of Warrensburg, for Driving While Revoked.
Deputies were dispatched to a call regarding an animal bite. The bite took place on the evening of July 31st in the 1000 block of North East 75. Deputies identified the victim as Jayden Daniels. The owner of the dog was advised to quarantine the animal.
On the morning of August 1st, Deputies conducted a traffic stop within Warrensburg near Maguire and Cooper. Deputies discovered illegal controlled substances and rug paraphernalia. Viola Frances Stout, 64, and Cora Irene Lawrence, 45, both of Warrensburg, were placed under arrest and transported to the Johnson County Jail. Both Stout and Lawrence were booked and released pending formal charges**.
On the morning of August 1st, Deputies were dispatched to rural Johnson County in regards to a burglary. Deputies spoke with the resident of the trailer, who said someone attempted to break in. The door lock was broken in the attempt to gain entry.
Deputies were dispatched to rural Centerview on the afternoon of August 1st. Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the 200 block of SW 601. The reporting party stated her step son was in the basement, throwing items and threatening to light the house on fire. After the investigation was completed, it was found to be a verbal disturbance. The victim as informed on how to obtain and Ex Parte Order of Protection. The step son was found to have an active warrant out of Clay County. Devin Tyler Trober, 22, of Centerview, was arrested on his Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Driving While Suspended. Bond was set at $500 cash only.
On the evening of August 1st, Deputies were dispatched to follow up on a case at the Johnson County Jail Deputies contacted Michael Christopher Steiner, 36, of Grain Valley, was booked in for his Failure to Appear warrant on an original charge of Speeding (11-15 MPH Over). Bond was set at $105.00 cash or surety.
Deputies were dispatched to a report of stealing in the 500 block of NW 1601 in Kingsville. On the evening of August 1st, the reporting party stated their registration tabs on their vehicle had been stolen.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a black 2008 Ford Taurus for speeding on the night of August 2nd. The suspect was found to be intoxicated. Phillip Joel Haggard, 41, of Kingsville, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated.
On the night of August 2nd, a Johnson County Crime Resolution Team member conducted a traffic stop in the Casey’s parking lot, 404 North Lee Street in Leeton. The stop was conducted because a vehicle had a defective equipment violation. The driver, Timothy Specker, 59, of Holden, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Suspended. A passenger, identified as Robert Wayne Grubb***, 54, of Kingsville, fled the stop on foot. The Deputy’s patrol car was further struck by a camper that was leaving the parking lot during the traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle pulling the camper was identified as Phillip Schooley, 57, of Leeton. The MSHP responded to the scene to take an accident report.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop near the 1100 block of SW 58 Highway in Holden on the night of August 2nd. Deputies identified the driver as Daren Brandon Martin, 38, of Belton. Martin was arrested on a charge of Driving While Revoked, and released on scene with a citation.
On the morning of August 3rd, Deputies were patrolling in Leeton, travelling south on Graham Street. Deputies observed Billy Joe Curlee, 45, of Leeton, was standing outside near a vehicle in the 400 block of South Graham Street. Deputies were aware of Curlee’s warrants for his arrest. Curlee was arrested on his Failure to Appear warrants on charges of Driving While Revoked, No Headlights, and Stealing and Property Damage.
Deputies were travelling west on 50 Highway in the 100 block on the afternoon of August 3rd. Deputies observed a small tan Toyota passenger vehicle with tinted windows travelling east at a high rate of speed. Deputies were able to check the vehicle’s speed at over 100 MPH as the vehicle was approaching the rear of other vehicles. As the vehicle got closer, Deputies observed the vehicle pass two vehicles using the shoulder of 50 Highway. Deputies caught up to the vehicle and arrested the driver. Isaac M. Kaltefleiter, 18, of Grandview, was placed under arrest. Kaltefleiter was issued a summons and released****.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop in Warrensburg near Maguire and Young on August 4th. Deputies identified the driver and determined she was impaired. Cheyanne Thorpe, 22, of Warrensburg, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.
On the morning of August 6th, Deputies were dispatched to a report of property damage in the 1000 block of SW 1301 in Holden. The reporting party advised her mailbox had been set on fire last night, and there was a liqueur bottle inside of the mailbox. The reporting party has a suspect in mind, but cannot prove anything at the moment.
Deputies were dispatched to rural Johnson County in regards to a theft on the morning of August 6th. Deputies made contact with the property manager, Nolan Ray Brooks. Brooks advised the air conditioning unit was destroyed, and parts were taken. Deputies took photos of the scene, and got information from the property owners. There is no suspect information at this time.
On the morning of August 6th, Deputies were dispatched to an address in rural Leeton in regards to found property. Deputies spoke with Michael Gray, who advised he had found a Springfield 950E single shot, .410 shotgun, on his front porch. Gray advised he went to bed at approximately 9:00 p.m. the night before, and the firearm was not there at the time. He saw it the next morning, at approximately 8:30 a.m. Deputies seized the firearm and took it to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
On the afternoon of August 6th, Deputies were dispatched to the 1900 block of Highway 58 for a report of a black Camaro that was damaged and blocking the lanes of Highway 58. The reporting party advised of a vehicle breaking down in the middle of the highway and a female subject “flipped out” when she attempted to help her. While patrolling the area, Deputies observed the vehicle at the Kingsville Faststop Gas Station about twenty minutes later. The driver matched the description given earlier. Deputies followed the vehicle has it travelled eastbound on 58 Highway. Deputies observed the vehicle turn into Shenanigans Liquor and Luck store, 1646 SW 58 Highway. A stop was conducted, and the driver was placed under arrest. Brianna Mae Fair, 29, of Harrisonville, was arrested for her active Failure to Appear warrant on charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a Valid License and Expired Plates. Fair was also given a new charge of Driving While Suspended.
Deputies responded to the Western Missouri Medical Center on the morning of August 7th. Deputies investigated reports of a dog bite occurring at an address in the 100 block of SE 1171 in Knob Noster. Deputies arrived on scene, photographed the victim’s injuries, and spoke with the owner.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop at a rural address in Chilhowee on the afternoon of August 7th. The driver, Timothy D. Specker, 59, of Chilhowee, was issued a citation for Driving While Suspended.
On the night of August 11th, Deputies were dispatched to a report of a motorist assist. Mario Arteaga Ramirez, 29, of Knob Noster, was issued citations for Operating A Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without a Valid License and Failure to Register a Motor Vehicle With the DOR. A fraudulent Missouri temporary tag was seized for further investigation.
Dispatch advised of a disturbance on the afternoon of August 11th in the area of SW 11 in Johnson County. Deputies spoke with Iquetta Gains, who was yelling about money and belongings in the residence. She advised a suspect, Treva Pounds, was in the residence. Dispatch confirmed she had a warrant from Blue Springs issued in 2023. Gains advised she had been kicked out of the house by Pounds. Gains used Pounds’ phone to call Police. Deputies made contact with Pounds and another subject, Mark Reed. Reed lived in the residence and was related to Gains. Reed and Pounds confirmed Gains did not live there and did not pay rent. Pounds, 53, was arrested on her Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Operating a Moto Vehicle Without Maintaining Financial Responsibility. Bond was set at $1,000 cash only.
Deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of North Main Street in Centerview on the afternoon of July 14th. The reporting party, William Robert Burch, advised his mailbox and his neighbor’s mailbox were destroyed. There were marks in the grass from tire tracks, and other marks on the wooden pole, as well as paint transfer on the pole. At this time, there are no suspects.
On the morning of August 9th, Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 1000 block of NW 50 Highway because the vehicle had no registration. The driver, Nadia Marie Horvatin, 30, of Kansas City, was issued a citation for Driving While Suspended. Horvatin was released on scene.
Deputies were dispatched to an address in rural Chilhowee regarding a theft. The call came to Dispatch on the morning of August 9th. Robert Lewis Sullins stated his red 48 inch Gravely 0 turn mower had been stolen sometime between Tuesday and Friday.
On the evening of August 8th, Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of NE 50 Highway in Warrensburg. A black Hyundai Elantra was stopped because it had no license plates. Robert William Smith, 41, of Sedalia, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Smith was transported to the Johnson County Jail.
Deputies were dispatched to an address in rural Holden on the morning of August 8th in reference to a cardiac or respiratory arrest. Deputies located the deceased and conducted a death investigation. No foul play was suspected, and the deceased was released to a local funeral home.
On the morning of July 20th, Deputies were travelling east on 50 Highway in the area of the northwest 200 block. Deputies observed a black SUV travelling west at what appeared to be a high rate of speed. With the radar activated, they observed a reading of 86 MPH in a posted 65 MPH zone. Upon catching up to the vehicle, Officers initiated a stop. Danel Oskolsky 38, of Sedalia, was cited for Driving While Suspended. Oskolsky was issued a citation and released on scene.
Deputies responded to an address in rural Warrensburg in reference to a cardiac arrest on the morning of August 8th. A male subject was found deceased on scene. The local Coroner determined there was no foul play in the cause of death, and the body was released to a local funeral home.
Deputies were travelling north and entered the roundabout at 13 Highway and DD on the morning of August 8th. Deputies then observed a tan Dodge Durango with no front license plate travelling south. Deputies turned around and caught up to the vehicle in the 100 block of SE 13 Highway. Deputies initiated emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop. Jacob Wood, 26, of Clinton, was placed under arrest for Driving While Revoked. Wood was transported to the Johnson County Jail.
