A woman has been charged with stabbing her live-in boyfriend to death in the first homicide of 2019 in Kansas City.

Fifty-two-year-old Carmelita Smith was charged Thursday with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of 60-year-old Tony Carmons. Her bond was set at $100,000 cash.

Charging documents say Carmons told two a nurse and someone else that his girlfriend stabbed him in an apartment after he arrived home from work. He was rushed Wednesday night to a hospital with a chest wound and later died. Investigators found a bloody knife in a sink in the apartment.

Court records say Smith had cut Carmons at least two previous times. She declined to talk to police, and no attorney is listed for her in online court records.
