A Mansfield teenager drowned after her vehicle was swept off a bridge in Wright County early Sunday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 18-year-old Aliyah Wedge of Mansfield was driving a 2016 Ford eastbound on State Highway AB, three miles north of Mansfield. The report said she approached the Wolfe Creek Crossing and drove into water, which caused her car to stall.

Wedge called 911 for help, then when authorities arrived, instructed her to get on top of her car, according to Sgt. Jeff Kinder of MSHP Troop G.

Wedge drowned after exiting the car, according to the MSHP report. The fatal incident happened around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Wedge was pronounced dead at 10:04 a.m. by Wright County Coroner Ben Hurtt. The body was taken to Craig Hurtt Funeral Home in Mountain Grove.

This is the third reported drowning in Troop G this year, the Patrol said.
