S-C’s McCoy Earns Scholarship to Beloit College
Smith-Cotton High School senior Matthew McCoy has accepted an athletic scholarship to compete on the swimming and diving team at Beloit College in Beloit, Wisc.
McCoy, the son of Theresa McCoy, is a two-year varsity letter winner for the Tigers swimming and diving team. He qualified for the MSHSAA Class 1 state meet in diving each of the past two seasons. McCoy also has competed in track and field for three seasons.
S-C Boys Swimming and Diving Head Coach Samantha Yewell said: “Matthew has come a long way in the 3 years he was on the team. He was very new to swim and dive his first year (sophomore year). He went from not being able to swim across the pool without stopping, to becoming a two-time state qualifier and now receiving a scholarship for swim and dive at Beloit College.”
S-C Boys Swimming and Diving Assistant Coach Victoria Linderman said, “Matthew has put in hours of hard work at practice and deserves every honor he's earned. We're very proud of him.”
