One Arrested in Homestead Mobile Home Break-ins
On Thursday at 9:07 p.m., Pettis County deputies responded to 1507 North Ohio on a report of a burglary in progress.
While en-route, deputies were informed that the suspect had fled the scene, and that the homeowner had fired shots at the suspect as he fled.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the victims, who reported they awoke to a strange man laying in their bed with them.
The homeowners retrieved two firearms and chased the suspect out of the residence. As the suspect fled the home, one of the victims fired one round at the suspect, who was not struck.
As the investigation got underway, a neighbor in the area called the SO to report that a male suspect attempted to force his way in their vehicle and their home. Deputies responded to that residence, located at Lot 24 in Homestead Mobile Home Park.
The resident provided a description of the suspect, which matched the description given to deputies by the victims at 1507 North Ohio.
The resident at Lot 24 informed deputies that the suspect had fled to Lot 29.
Deputies responded to that address and made contact with Scorpio D. Hernton, who matched the description provided by both victims.
Hernton was detained, and was then positively identified by the victims.
Hernton was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail on a 24-hour hold. He was charged with Tampering With a Motor Vehicle, Fourth Degree Assault and First Degree Burglary.
