Paul Ray "Poncho" Brownfield, 78, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014, at his home.

He was born September 19, 1935, in the Wells Road area of Pettis County, son of Floyd and Hattie Pummill Brownfield. On October 19, 1956, in Sedalia, he married Mitzi Lou Eby and they were blessed with four children. On May 25, 1979, in Green Ridge, he married Patricia A. Simmons, who died March 8, 2002.

Mr. Brownfield retired from the Missouri Pacific shops after 41 years, where he was a carman welder. He had worked in Sedalia and DeSoto. He was a member of the Sedalia Rod and Gun Club and enjoyed quail hunting, riding motorcycles and doing yard work. He enjoyed spending time with the morning group at Country Kitchen. He was a very kind man and to know him was to love him.

Surviving are four children: Wesley Brownfield, and wife, Charlu, of Warsaw, Julia Judd, and husband, Keith, of Sedalia, Janet Pierce, and husband, David, of Sedalia, and Mitzi Kay Myears, and husband, Eddie, of Green Ridge; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Maxine Warren, of Green Ridge; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Brownfield, of Sedalia.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Gary Simmons; and two brothers, Gordon and Clifford Brownfield.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 21, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Pastors Randy and Dianna Marcum officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Ray and Jess Martin.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at Heckart Funeral Home.
