This article is compiled from reports issued by the Pettis County Sheriff's Office.
Last Wednesday night, Pettis County Deputies conducted a traffic stop at Maplewood North Road and US 50 Highway on a vehicle that had no lights on. Deputies checked the driver’s information with Dispatch, who advised the driver was on Probation for a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance. The driver gave Deputies consent to search the vehicle. While searching the vehicle, Deputies located a dollar bill rolled up in the purse next to the driver’s seat, which had a white crystal substance inside. Deputies found another rolled up bill on the passenger seat which also had a white substance inside. Deputies advised the driver they were going to test the substance, and she said it would “probably test positive for Methamphetamine.” Jessica Suzanne Jones, 46, of Otterville, was placed under arrest. After Jones was placed under arrest, the substances were tested and came back positively for Methamphetamine as well as Fentanyl. Both substances appeared to be above the statutory limit of 10MG for Fentanyl. Jones was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Pettis County Jail, facing felony charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Trafficking Drugs in the 2nd Degree*. Bond was set at $15,000 cash or surety.
Saturday morning, Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the area of East 7th and South Engineer Avenue on a vehicle with expired registration. The vehicle also had its bright lights on, and when they were turned off, both headlights were defective. Speaking with the driver, Deputies noticed his eyes appeared to be sunken in, and was having trouble keeping them open. The driver also had slurred speech. Deputies asked the driver if there was anything in the vehicle that would get him in trouble, and he stated “No.” Deputies asked for consent to search the vehicle, and the driver refused, stating the vehicle was not his. SPD were called to give the driver a field sobriety test. The driver refused to exit the vehicle several times. When he was finally ordered out, Deputies removed a pocket knife from his right pocket. After a K9 sniff of the vehicle, the dog alerted, giving the Deputies probable cause for a search, which the driver again stated he did not give permission for. As Deputies were searching the vehicle, they found a rolled-up dollar bill in the driver’s seat with a white crystal substance inside. Deputies note in the probable cause report this white substance is known to Deputies as a mixture of methamphetamine and fentanyl. After a test kit, both substances were found to be present in an amount of 1.7 grams**. Brandon James Miller, 42, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of felony Trafficking Drugs in the 2nd Degree, and felony Possession of a Controlled Substance. Miller was transported to the Pettis County jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold, pending a $100,000 cash or surety bond.
On the night of October 11th, Deputies were dispatched to the Sheriff’s Office for a found property report. The reporting party stated he was getting gas at 4575 South Limit, when he found a brown colored wallet on top of a gas pump. The reporting party stated he came to the Sheriff’s Office and called Dispatch, so the wallet would be returned to the owner. The wallet had multiple credit cards all bearing the same name, Christopher Lopez. Deputies passed the dame through Dispatch, and discovered the name came back to an address out of Blue Springs. All credit cards and the Missouri driver’s license will be placed into evidence for safe keeping.

Deputies advised the caller stated she had been strangled by the suspect. Deputies knocked on the door and asked what happened. The suspect stated his wife had attacked him. Deputies entered the house and spoke with the caller. She stated they had been arguing about a previous injury she had, which caused him to get aggressive. She stated he pushed her down and began to strangle her, while also punching her in the head. She went on to stated she did swing back at him and believed she scratched him. She also stated she had grabbed a hold of his collar, and once she was free of him, he punched her in the head again. She then barricaded herself in a bedroom and called 911. Speaking to the suspect, he stated the argument stated the same way, but was vague and would not provide any information about the physical aspect of the assault.
