On the night of October 4th, Deputies were patrolling near the intersection of US 50 Highway and US 65 Highway when a white hatchback style vehicle sped through the intersection at a high rate of speed. Deputies attempted to catch up to and stop the vehicle, but the vehicle continued at an even faster rate of speed. Deputies caught up to the vehicle at US 50 and South Grand Avenue and the vehicle continued eastbound, failing to yield. The vehicle then pulled into the Urgent Care parking lot at US 50 near Ohio Avenue. Everyone was removed from the vehicle. The driver was identified as Michael A. Garbuzov, 27, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest on charges of Resisting Arrest and Driving in a Careless and Imprudent Manner. The passenger, Dmitriy Victor Makovsky, 32, of Sedalia, was uncooperative. Makovsky failed to obey commands to step out of the vehicle when instructed to do so. Makovsky was placed into handcuffs, and still refused to identify himself. Makovsky was placed under arrest on a charge of Resisting Arrest. Both Makovsky and Garbuzov were transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released.


 

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a dark green Honda SUV late on the night of September 2nd. The vehicle was seen driving suspiciously in the area of West 16th Street and Lafayette Avenue by driving around the block in circles, and pulling into a gas station at 16th and Ohio. The vehicle then went out the back way of the gas station through the alleyway, and continued westbound on 18th Street. The driver was found to have suspended license. Robert Loren Pottorff*, 59, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Suspended. Pottorff was issued a citation and released from the scene.


 

On the morning of October 6th, Deputies were dispatched to Main Street in La Monte for a report of a subject driving around recklessly, possibly intoxicated. Upon arrival in the area, Deputies observed the suspect vehicle pull up to a residence off of Main Street and Park. The Deputy made contact with driver, identified as Dustin Ray Sattler, 29, of La Monte. After an investigation, it was discovered Sattler was under the influence of alcohol. Sattler was placed under arrest. While attempting to place him under arrest, another subject walked up to the scene and began obstructing the situation. The subject was told to leave multiple times, and refused. After a struggle, he was also placed under arrest. Lewis R. E. Neal, 38, of La Monte, was placed into custody for a charge of Resisting Arrest. Both Sattler and Neal were transported to the Pettis County Jail. Sattler was placed on a 24-hour hold, and Neal was booked and released.


 

Last Monday evening, Deputies were dispatched to an assisted living facility at 2800 Highway TT in Sedalia for a report of a physical disturbance taking place. Upon arrival, Deputies were advised that four subjects in total were involved in the disturbance. The disturbance led to a staff member being assaulted. After interviewing witnesses and the victim, charges were submitted on Joel Caylor, 31, of the facility, for Assault in the 3rd Degree.


 

On the morning of September 10th, Deputies were patrolling in the area of US 50 Highway and US 65 Highway when they observed a red SUV turn westbound from US 50 Highway from the far left lane to the outermost right lane. The vehicle was also travelling faster than the legal speed limit, with speeds collected at 56MPH to 61MPh in a 45MPH zone. The vehicle struck a curb at the intersection of US 50 Highway and Thompson Boulevard, and the vehicle failed to maintain tis lane several times. The vehicle crossed the solid white line on the right shoulder multiple times, and drifted halfway into the left lane multiple times. The driver appeared to be confused as Deputies spoke with him. The driver was upset because he could not turn his music down on his vehicle, even though he was on his phone. He was advised to turn the music down with the knob on the radio. As the driver was getting his identification out, Deputies observed pieces of marijuana on his lap. As the driver spoke, Deputies could smell an odor of intoxicants coming from his breath. After a series of field sobriety tests, the driver submitted to a PBT, which showed a BAC of .167. Isaiah Brown, 26, of Kanas City, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Brown was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released.


 

Last Tuesday morning, Deputies observed a black passenger car travelling at a high rate of speed going south on Clinton Road near Erika Avenue. The Deputy activated his patrol radar device and collected a speed of 62 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in a pizza parlor parking lot at 3200 South Limit Avenue. The driver, identified as Conner L. Embry, 32, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. Embry was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released. Embry’s hearing on the matter is in December. Speeding charges were not listed in Casenet.

Friday night, Deputies conducted a traffic stop near the area of the 1700 block of West Broadway boulevard in Sedalia on a black Chevrolet Malibu. The vehicle had expired registration. The driver was identified as Tylor J. Sayers, 28, of Sedalia. A computer check showed Sayers had two active Pettis County warrants for Failure to Appear on original charges of No Insurance. Sayers was placed under arrest for his warrants, and transported to the Pettis County Jail pending a total bond of $294.00 cash only.


 

Monday afternoon, a subject named Edward Lee Collins III, 28, of Kansas City, was transported back to the Pettis County Jail from the Clay County Jail, because he had active Pettis County warrants for his arrest. The warrants were issued in 2016 after Collins failed to appear in court on charges of Speeding (16-19 MPH) and Driving While Suspended. Deputies learned Collins also had an active warrant from Johnson County, Kansas. The warrant was a Failure to Appear on charges of Possession of Marijuana. Bond on that warrant was set at $5,000 cash or surety. Collins was placed on a 24-hour hold for a charge of Fugitive from Justice.


 

Deputies were dispatched to the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office lobby regarding a report of assault and burglary that occurred. The report was filed on October 17th, and the burglary had occurred in the early morning hours of October 13th in the 24000 block of Ringen School Road. The investigation is ongoing.


 

On the afternoon of August 16th, Deputies were dispatched to the 35000 block of Highway M for a report of littering. Deputies made contact with the property owner, who stated a male subject who shares an easement with him dumped ash from a firepit on the roadway. The ashes were now getting into his creek water. The suspect, identified as Christopher Ryan Knoeferl, 31, of Mora, stated he did indeed dump the ash. Knoeferl stated, however, he believed it was his property he had dumped the ashes onto. Knoeferl stated he would remove the ash that afternoon. Three days later, Deputies were dispatched back to the address because the ash was still on the property. Deputies took a report and submitted charges of Littering to the prosecutor in Knoeferl’s name.


 

Pettis County Deputies stopped a vehicle for speeding on Sunday morning in the area of US 50 HWY and HWY TT. The driver was recorded travelling at 100 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. The driver, Olvin Reyes Espinoza, age and location unknown**, was placed under arrest. Espinoza, was booked and released from the Pettis County Jail pending charges of Speeding (26 MPH or More) and Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without a Valid License.


 

Saturday evening, Deputies observed a vehicle speeding in the area of US 50 Highway and Carrol Road. The vehicle was clocked travelling at 86 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. Deputies caught up to the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The driver was found to have a revoked driving status. After further investigation, the driver was also found to be intoxicated, with three small children in the vehicle. Denty Alexander, 24 of Warrensburg, was placed under arrest. Alexander was booked in at the Petit County Jail on charges of Driving While Intoxicated (Person Younger than 17 in the Vehicle), and Driving While Suspended. Speeding charges were not mentioned in the report. Alexander was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Pettis County Jail. There was no mention of the children or their return to family in the report.


 

Saturday morning, Deputies conducted a traffic stop at a gas station located at West 16th Street and South Grand Avenue. The vehicle was displaying license plates from another person, and it had also committed other traffic offenses (no front plate, failed to signal a turn). The passenger exited the vehicle and walked away, after being given several lawful orders to stop. The passenger stated he was going inside the store. The driver provided a fake name and was later identified. Samuel Aaron Bartlett, 40, of Sedalia, the driver, was arrested on charges of felony Driving While Revoked and Identity Theft. He also had a warrant for his arrest from Pettis County on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and felony Driving While Revoked. Bond on that warrant was set at $30,000 cash or surety. The passenger was identified as Shaun Mark Bartlett, 36, of Sedalia. The passenger was, according to the probable cause statement, interfering with Deputies making their arrest due to having to divide his attention between both parties. The passenger also lied several times, stating the driver’s name was Jason. Bartlett was arrested on a charge of Resisting Arrest (Interfering With a Felony Arrest).


 

On the morning of August 7th, Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a white Kia Optima. The driver was identified as Hannah Cassel Meyer, 27, of Sedalia. Meyer had an active Pettis County warrant for her arrest for FTA on original charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle With Vision Reducing Material Applied. Meyer was placed under arrest and transported to the Petits County Jail, pending a $100 cash only bond.


 

On the night of September 17th, Deputies were patrolling in the area of a gas station in the 4500 block of South Limit Avenue when a traffic violation was observed on a white Ford Ranger. A traffic stop was conducted on the truck, and contact was made with the driver. The driver was found to be suspended driver out of Kansas. The license plates on the Ranger also came back expired to a Ford Focus. Angle Lee Leeper, 51, of Atchison Kansas, was issued a citation for Driving While Suspended. Leeper was released from the scene.


 

On the afternoon of August 12th, Deputies made contact with a subject who had a Henry County warrant for their arrest in the area of East 4th Street and South Lamine Avenue. Susan Ann Sweeney***, 45, of Warsaw, was placed under arrest. The FTA warrant was issued in May 2024 on charges of Trespassing. Sweeney was transported to the Pettis County Jail pending a $225.00 cash or surety bond, which Sweeney posted on August 16th.


 

On the morning of August 7th, Deputies were patrolling in the area of US 50 Highway near Airpark Road when they observed a grey Ford Focus pull into a gas station near US 50 Highway and Rissler Road. The driver of the vehicle looked at Deputies, and then attempted to hide his face. Deputies checked the license plate of the vehicle, which came back to Chevrolet passenger car. At the stop, the driver’s information was checked with JCOMM. His license information came back as suspended. Joshua Lee Simons, 34, of Sedalia, was arrested and issued a citation for Driving While Suspended (2nd or 3rd Offense). Simons was released from the scene, after being asked to switch seats with the passenger, who had a valid driver’s license.


 

On the morning of September 8th, Deputies were dispatched to a possible vehicle crash involving a motorcycle that was lying the middle of the roadway near US 65 Highway and Maltsbarger Road. Upon arrival, it was determined there was no crash, and that a moped has possibly fallen out of vehicle without anyone knowing about it. The moped was towed, as there was information about the property owner. The next day, Deputies were called by the property owner of the moped. He wished to report the moped was stolen. There are no known suspects at this time.


 

Deputies were dispatched to an assisted living facility in the 2800 block of TT Highway on the night of October 1st regarding a past assault. Upon arrival, Deputies were informed of another disturbance taking place. It involved two subjects physically fighting. After speaking with everyone involved and the witnesses, Marian Johnson, age and location unknown****, was placed under arrest. Johnson was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked in on charges of Assault in the 2nd Degree (Special victim). Johnson was placed on a 24-hour hold.


 

*The name of the suspect in the original report is spelled as “Robert Portorff”. In Casenet 24PT-CR01433, the name is spelled as “Robert Loren Pottorff”.

**There is no listing in Casenet for a “Olvin Reyes Espinoza”. There is a listing for a “Olvin C. Espinoza.” Those two names do not appear to be the same individual. There is no listing for this speeding incident in Casenet as of news time. There was no mention of where Espinoza is from or how old he in the report.

***The name is misspelled as “Sweeny” in the report. In Casenet, the name is listed as “Sweeney”.

****There is not a current listing in Casenet regarding this incident at news time. There are several “Marian Johnson” names listed in Casenet, with middle initials of A, D, and J. Since a middle name was not specified in the report, age and location cannot be confirmed.
