Pettis County Sheriff’s Reports for September 6, 2024
This article is compiled from reports issued by the Pettis County Sheriff's Office.
Thursday evening, Deputies conducted a warrant check at an address in the 900 block of East 6th Street on a subject who had a felony warrant for their arrest from St Clair County. The warrant was issued in June of 2024, after an incident in November of 2021. In that incident, Deputies were investigating a medical call involving a two-month-old baby bleeding from her mouth, according to the probable cause report. Arriving on scene, the suspect stated he was walking around with the baby when the baby kicked her legs, which kicked a cell phone out of the suspect’s hand. He stated he was shocked by the baby kicking, and when he went to pick up his phone, the baby “rolled out of his arms” hitting her mouth on his boot. As Officers continued to investigate, they noticed the baby was not continuing to move around or flail her arms. They asked the suspect again, how “her small foot moved your big arm out of the way.” He then stated, “Like I said, I wasn’t expecting it.” He then described another incident where a dog had pushed the baby (who was one month old at the time) off the bed in Sedalia. His account conflicted with the accounts given by other adults present at the time. The probable cause report goes on to note the suspect’s father believes he has a serious anger problem, and did not think the baby should be with either the suspect, or her mother. In the probable cause report, the Deputy continues to note the suspect is homeless, does not own a vehicle, and was a danger to the victim, all of which made him a potential flight risk. Shannon W. Cramer, 21, of Warsaw, was arrested on his warrant on charges of felony Abuse or Neglect of a Child (No Sexual Contact), and misdemeanor Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the 2nd Degree. Cramer was transported to the Pettis County Jail, pending a cash or surety bond of $5,000.
Tuesday afternoon, the Saline County Children’s Division notified Pettis County Sheriff’s Office Detectives of a possible case of child endangerment. The incident occurred on August 20th, 2024. In that incident, personnel stated they visited the suspect at her home, and the suspect admitted she had used methamphetamine in front of her two-year-old daughter. She told staff it was “okay to get high in front of the child as long as she was awake and alert.” The children’s division sent off a follicle sample from the child to a lab for testing. The sample of the child’s hair came back positively regarding methamphetamine*. The Children’s Division reported they contacted the Juvenile Office and initiated an emergency petition to remove the child from the home. CD found safe placement for the child. Heather Nicole Staus, 30, of Smithton, was arrested on charges of felony Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the 1st Degree Involving Drugs. Bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety; with the stipulation Staus is to have no contact with the victim.
Wednesday evening, Deputies were dispatched to a local business at 4575 South Limit to investigate a report of harassment. On arrival, Deputies made contact with the reporting party, Amy Winsauer. Winsauer stated she is a cashier at the store. Winsauer stated a white male came into the store and was cussing, telling people they were going to hell. Winsauer continued, saying the male subject said vulgar things to hear. The suspect left the area prior to Deputies’ arrival. The investigation continues.
On the afternoon of September 4th, Deputies responded to the 20000 block of Chevalir Road in Pettis County to investigate a theft report. Two firearms were stolen from the property. The investigation was submitted to Detectives for further investigation. There are no suspects at this time.
Thursday morning, Deputies responded to the Bothwell Regional Health Center, 601 East 14th Street, for a report of a dog bite. The dog bite had taken place earlier that morning. There was no further information in the report.
Deputies were dispatched to the 400 block of South Washington Street in La Monte on the morning of September 1st. Deputies were called to investigate a report of property damage. A window had been shot out with what is believed to be a BB gun.
*The probable cause report notes the United Drug Testing labs stated the sample was positive for Methamphetamine with 917.0 picograms per milligram. 200 pg/mg was the cutoff, according to the lab report. The Deputy notes in the probable cause report that “Heather is now accused of allowing her two-year-old child to ingest methamphetamine.”
