The Sacred Heart baseball team collected its first win of the season Wednesday with a narrow victory over Sweet Springs 17-16.

After trailing by as many as ten runs at one point, the Gremlins found themselves within striking distance in the seventh inning. A bases loaded two out and two RBI single by 9-hole hitter Caden Crooker made the score 15-16. Alex Karigan and the gremlins then got down to their last strike before Karigan again singled in two more runs to give SH its first lead of the game at 17-16.

One run was all the insurance relief pitcher Connor Rice would need to close the door on Sweet Springs in the bottom of the seventh inning and secure the comeback victory.

Six Gremlins had multiple hits for SH, led by Karigan with four hits and four RBIs. Lucas Martin, Carter and Connor Rice, Tanner Damlo and Crooker also had multi-hit games Wednesday night.

Sacred Heart (1-2) will continue its season on April 6 at Northwest (4-1).
