Sacred Heart captured the regular season conference championship with a 4-1 victory over the Smithton Tigers Tuesday night

Sophomore Ian Viscarra opened the scoring with a goal of the year candidate for the Gremlins. At the 21st minute, Viscarra received the ball ten yards outside the 18. He deftly dribbled around one defender and unleashed a shot to the left corner of the goal beating the Smithton Keeper.

Senior Juan Fernandez once again was a disruptive force and won a penalty kick in the box at the 30th minute. Viscarra calmly buried the penalty into the right corner for a 2-0 lead. The Gremlins then struck again at the 35th minute off a long throw from Fernandez. Junior Jaysen Gerke made a run into the box and tucked the ball away for a 3-0 halftime lead.

At the 25th minute of the second half, the Tigers took advantage of a miscommunication in the Gremlins Defense and scored off a cross that fell to a wide open player on the back post. Fernandez quickly regained to three goal advantage for the Gremlins. Fernandez received a pass at midfield and dribbled past three tiger defenders for the fourth goal of the night.

With the win, the Gremlins complete an undefeated regular season in Kaysinger Conference Play.

The Sacred Heart Grems play Southern Boone (20-1) on the road Thursday night at 7 p.m.

Smithton is now 13-7-1.

The Sacred Heart Junior High Soccer team beat the Smithton Tigers 2-0.

The Gremlins played their best game of the season by making good connections and controlling possession of the game.

The Soccer Gremlins are seeded first in the conference and their conference tournament is scheduled for next week.
