Sacred Heart Softball Shuts Down Smithton, 8- 0
Sacred Heart's Zoe Martin threw an 8-0 shutout Monday night against the Smithton Tigers.
The fireballer lasted seven innings, allowing two hits, zero runs while striking out 11.
The Gremlins were led defensively by Emma Siron, going 6-for-6 on putouts with zero errors.
The Gremlins got things started in the first inning when Sammy Altena singled on the first pitch of her at bat, scoring one run. Sacred Heart added runs in the second and third inning, and two runs in the fifth. The Gremlins' bats came alive in the seventh inning led by a single by Zoe Martin, an error on a ball put in play by Claire Smeltzer, and a double by Keely Elwell.
The Gremlins collected 12 hits in the game. Elwell, Altena, and Emma Siron each collected multiple hits for Sacred Heart. Elwell went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the team. SIron led the team in stolen bases with two.
This brings the Gremlins Varsity to 7-6 on the season and 5-1 in Conference play.
The Sacred Heart Gremlins JV brought home another win on Monday night, defeating the Smithton Tigers 9-8 in five innings.
Emma Siron made her pitching debut and took the win. Siron surrendered three hits, striking out two and walking one. Karen Cisneros and Abby Arnold entered the game out of the bullpen and helped close out the game in relief.
The Gremlins were led defensively by Olivia Dobson, Peyton Martin, Abby Arnold, and Kelcy Mullet.
Sacred Heart plays Bunceton with Prairie Home on Thursday. The Lady Grems travel to Weaubleau Friday.
Smithton is now 5-2.
The Gremlin JV tallied nine hits on the night with Arnold and Kendra Durham both collecting two hits apiece. Emily McDonald and Alissa Blakely led the team in stolen bases with two each.
The Sacred Heart Gremlin JV team remains undefeated at 5-0 on the season..
