The Boys and Girls Club site in Sedalia will be relocating this summer.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri Board of Directors says the relocation of The CLUB, the middle and junior high school age Club site, will become effective June 1.

During a regular board meeting on April 20, board members formally voted to relocate The CLUB’s current location at 314 S. Washington Ave. in the old Community Center building, and move programming to First Baptist Church at 200 E. Sixth St.

A press release from the BGCWCM says the relocation will give Boys & Girls Club much-needed space as it includes a gym with multiple recreational and fitness opportunities. Programming will primarily take place in the Christian Life Center (CLC) area and a classroom that will be used as a technology lab.

“The reason Boys & Girls Club exists is to provide programs for kids and most importantly, the relocation allows growth opportunities to better meet the needs of our members,” said Executive Director Gary Beckman.

“From our members’ perspective, everything will remain the same except the location,” said Director of Operations Tyler Hudson. “We’ll still offer homework help and have enriching learning programs including robotics and STEAM. But this new location will allow us to expand programming, which is a goal we always strive for.”

BGCWCM has used the downtown Community Center Building off and on for programming and administrative needs since the mid-1970s.

“We know there are many people in this community who have great memories of playing basketball or pool or working at the downtown site who will be very sad to see it leave that location,” Beckman said. “There’s a lot of history in that building and we did not take this decision lightly.”

“We are excited about the opportunity First Baptist Church has presented to us, in addition to the programming and recreational opportunities the new location will provide,” said BGC Board President Todd Gerlt. “We are blessed to be in a generous community where there are so many individuals and organizations who support us.”

Programming at The CLUB will continue at the downtown location through the end of the school year before switching to First Baptist Church for the Summer Program.
