Mayor Andrew Dawson announced today that he will seek reelection in the April 7, 2026 municipal election. He expressed deep gratitude for the people of Sedalia and for the city employees who have worked alongside him during the past four years.

“It has been an honor to serve the community I grew up in,” Mayor Dawson said. “The trust the people of Sedalia have placed in me is something I value every single day. I am also grateful for our hardworking city staff, who keep this community strong and moving forward.”

Mayor Dawson explained that the role of Mayor is not about status or personal gain. Instead, it is about serving others and representing the community with humility and purpose.

“This job is an act of service,” Dawson said. “Sedalia deserves a leader who listens, works hard, and puts people first. That has guided every decision I have made, and it will continue to guide me moving forward.”

Mayor Dawson highlighted the progress Sedalia has made in recent years, but made clear that the credit belongs to the entire community:

Community and Staff Working Together

·         Sedalia has seen steady growth in new housing, new businesses, and community reinvestment.

·         The City has launched major public safety improvements and family-friendly projects that are now under construction.

·         Long-standing infrastructure needs such as sidewalks, stormwater issues, and key roadway and bridge challenges are finally being addressed with consistent planning and real action.

·         The City is preparing for long-term utility, wastewater, and street improvements to meet the needs of the next generation.

·         Financial planning, budgeting tools, and project management systems are in the process of being modernized.

Mayor Dawson noted that none of this progress is the work of one person.

“I would never claim these accomplishments for myself,” he said. “That would be arrogant, and it simply wouldn’t be true. These successes come from a full team effort-our city staff, department leaders, council members, neighborhood groups, business owners, and residents who stay involved and care deeply about Sedalia’s future.”

He added that the spirit of collaboration is the strongest foundation the city has.

“When we work together, when everyone brings their skills, their ideas, and their effort—we move Sedalia forward. That teamwork is what has made these past years successful, and it is what will carry us into the future.”

Looking Ahead: Goals for Sedalia’s Future

“As we look to the future, there is still important work ahead,” Dawson said. “But before setting specific goals, I believe it’s essential to spend time talking with the people of Sedalia. Campaigns aren’t just about sharing ideas, they’re about listening. When you’re connecting with voters, you learn what truly matters to them.”

Mayor Dawson noted several broad priorities already underway - projects he expects will continue to matter to Sedalia:

·         Completing the trail connection between the Katy Depot and the Community Center.

·         Seeing the sewer plant upgrade through to completion.

·         Continuing work on roads, sidewalks, stormwater systems, and utilities.

·         Planning ahead for long-term growth.

·         Expanding the rail park to support jobs and industry.

·         Encouraging more housing and retail development.

“These efforts are moving forward, but the direction we take from here must be shaped by our residents,” Dawson said. “My goal is to listen, learn, and work with our team and community partners so we build a future that reflects what the people of Sedalia want to see.”

Mayor Dawson said he is seeking another term to continue this momentum and to keep building a community that plans ahead, invests wisely, and supports the people who call Sedalia home.

“I am asking for your support and your vote on April 7, 2026,” Dawson said. “Together, we can keep Sedalia on the right track. I believe in this community, and I am committed to serving you.”
