SRC, SCHH Approve Matching Funds for New Roof at 217 East St. Louis
On June 25, 2025, the Sedalia Redevelopment Corporation (SRC), in partnership with Sedalia Community Helping Hands (SCHH), approved matching funds for a complete roof repair at 217 E. St. Louis Street.
While some structures in our community have deteriorated beyond repair, this home had potential, and thanks to this collaborative effort, it received the critical improvements needed to remain part of the neighborhood’s fabric.
“We’re proud to support efforts that prioritize preservation when possible and strengthen Sedalia’s housing stock through strategic investment,” the City said in a press release on Thursday.
According to Mayor Andrew Dawson, “When we first considered this project, Dr. Fraley—now our school superintendent—shared a memory from his time as principal at Horace Mann Elementary.
“As part of a counseling activity, students were asked to write letters to their counselor on “Things I wish my counselor knew”. One child wrote: ‘When it rains outside, it rains in my room.’ That line stayed with me. It reminded all of us that housing isn’t just about walls and roofs—it’s about safety, stability, and dignity, especially for the children who call these houses home.
“That’s exactly why we created the 353 Redevelopment Program and paired it with the heart and hands of our volunteers. Thanks to the Sedalia Helping Hands team, this home was not only saved—it was strengthened.
“Their work, done in faith and fellowship, made it possible for this house to remain part of the neighborhood. To every volunteer who shows up with tools in their hands and kindness in their hearts: thank you. You’re not just fixing homes—you’re building a better Sedalia, one family at a time,” Mayor Dawson said.
