Sedalia Teen Injured in Rollover Wreck Dies
A Sedalia teenager was injured in a one-vehicle accident that occurred Sunday morning in Pettis County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 19-year-old Merica M. Wilbanks of Sedalia was the driver of a southbound 2011 Kia Sorento on Highway U and McCormick Road when the driver failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the roadway and struck a tree. The call came in at 7 a.m.
Wilbanks was transported by air ambulance to Research Medical Center with serious injuries. She was not wearing a safety device, according to a report.
The Sorento was totaled and towed by Don's Truck Towing.
The Patrol was assisted at the scene by PCAD and Pettis County deputies.
UPDATE: Wilbanks was pronounced dead at Research by Dr. Rebecca Burnham at 3:33 p.m. Thursday, April 18.
