State Fair Community College has selected Christopher Guffey to be the Head Women’s Golf Coach. Guffey has 20 years of experience as a golf instructor and coach.

Guffey has served as Smith-Cotton High School girls’ golf coach since 2014 and the boy’s golf coach since 2018. During that time, he coached 11 state qualifiers for the girls’ team and four for the boys’ team. In 2021, Guffey coached the boys’ team to a fifth-place finish in Missouri Class 3. He was the swing coach for the girls’ Class 3 individual champion in 2019.

Guffey helped the Smith-Cotton boys’ team to the Athletic Program of the Year in 2021. He served on the Missouri State High School Activities Association Golf Advisory Board from 2014 to 2021.

“I love teaching the game of golf,” said Guffey. “My family is called to live here. I pastor at Cornerstone Baptist Church. Any opportunity that came with golf, has to fit into that long-term plan. After a lot of success at the high school level and coaching a few college athletes, this opportunity was presented. It fits in with our life plan, and it’s an opportunity that I’m looking forward to.”

Guffey earned a bachelor's in psychology and biblical studies from Southwest Baptist University. He also holds a Master of Divinity from Liberty Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia.

“I hope to build a competitive golf program here,” said Guffey. “I hope to not only attract student-athletes to the college but also give them an opportunity to continue to work on their skills so they can move on to the next level. We want to provide students with an opportunity to graduate from college with little to no debt using their God-given abilities to play golf. It has been a privilege to coach golf at Smith-Cotton High School. I’ve enjoyed working with many young ladies and men there. I’m looking forward to the next step at SFCC.”
