State Fair Community College (SFCC) sophomore defender Megan Toops recently signed to continue her academic and athletic career at Rockhurst University in Kansas City.

Toops was a key member of the Lady Roadrunners' defense for three seasons. She had several reasons for choosing Rockhurst.

"The coach at Rockhurst really welcomed me," said Toops. "He seemed really interested me and I liked the campus. I also have friends who go there and play sports and they love it. It is close to home, and I also got a really good scholarship."

As a sophomore, Toops helped her team to a 10-4-2 record, the most wins in the history of the program. Toops started all 16 games for SFCC during her sophomore campaign. She took three shots, all on goal, while helping to anchor the defense. Toops was named Second-Team All-Region 16 and First-Team All Missouri Community College Athletic Conference.

"Megan was the best pure defender on the team," said SFCC Athletic Director Darren Pannier. "She was always willing to do the difficult work in the back to keep opponents away from our goal."

In 2021, Toops played in 13 games and started 12. She took three shots, two on goal as a defender. Toops earned Second-Team All Missouri Community College Athletic Conference honors.

Toops was also known for her work in the classroom, earning NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Second-Team recognition.

In 2020, Toops started in 10 games. Toops registered a goal against Mineral Area College and one assist against East Central College

Toops was recognized with Second-Team All-Region 16 honors and First-Team All Missouri Community College Athletic Conference in 2020.

Toops will take away many memories from her time at SFCC.

"I really enjoyed Coach Tucker," said Toops. "He gave me a lot of confidence as a player that I didn't have before. We played a game in Nebraska my first year, when it was like 104°, and we were also tired, but we were so close as a team that we were able to push through and win the game. That is a memory that I will never forget. I always enjoyed our dinners after away games and bus rides, those were also fun. I made some really great friends, some of the best friends of my life at SFCC."

Toops will major in Business Administration with a minor in Data and Analytics.
