State Fair Community College (SFCC) hosted its annual Career and Technical Education (CTE) Signing Day March 2 in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus. The event was an opportunity to celebrate the decisions of about 70 young men and women who have enrolled in career and technical education programs at the college.

Attendees signed their letters of intent to study in their respective disciplines, posed for photos, toured the college, and visited with staff about the college’s academic programs and services.

Jessica Craig, executive director of Economic Development of Sedalia, Pettis County, addressed the students and their families as the event’s keynote speaker.

Craig congratulated the students for choosing to study technical education at SFCC and told attendees that the average salary of graduates in technical careers exceeded $59,000 per year.

“You have elected to pursue careers in high-demand areas,” said Craig. “You are the builders, the makers and the fixers of our future.”

Alexa Gutierrez, a senior at Sacred Heart High School, signed her letter of intent to study Nursing at SFCC.

“I want to be able to save lives,” said Gutierrez. “I want to be with patients to comfort them and help them when they need it most.”

Gutierrez is the first member of her family to attend college and chose SFCC because she felt it was her best opportunity to get her degree in Nursing.

Students and their families were treated to lunch, and scholarships were awarded to attendees in each discipline throughout the day.
