SFCC Offering Two Online Medical Courses
Two medical-related online courses are now being offered by State Fair Community College’s The LearningForce.
A press release from SFCC says, that the online Medical Assisting Review course that will take place from July 3 to August 11, and an online Community Health Worker (CHW) course will take place this summer, from August 1 to November 17.
The Medical Assisting Review course is described as being for medical assistants with at least one year of work experience. The course helps to prepare assistants to take the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant exam (CCMA). The press release states that many health care systems require assistants to have CCMA credentials, often times leading to higher salaries.
The cost for the Medical Assisting Review course is $200. Jill Semau will serve as the instructor.
The second online class is the Community Health Worker course.
The course is designed for anyone wanting to learn about the role of a community health worker, and for medical assistants, service coordinators, and agency staff serving clients who need access to health care. SFCC says a health worker conducts outreach services for organizations that promote individual and community health.
Topics covered in the class include how to motivate clients and families to set and reach health goals; how to assess clients’ eligibility for services; and how to assist with completing applications and registration forms. The class will help students learn about available community resources, and how to work with medical providers to ensure clients have comprehensive and coordinated care.
Tuition for the class is free and funded by the 'Community Health Worker grant' from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Lisa Montgomery, BSN, RN, Health Occupations instructor for the State Fair Career and Technology Center, is the instructor. To enroll, students must be over the age of 18, and must pass a required background check. According to the press release, after enrolling, students will receive instructions on obtaining a background check and the cost.
