SFCC to Present Musical Retrospect May 4-5
Students in State Fair Community College’s Music Arts ensembles will present their spring Musical Retrospect at 7:30 p.m. May 4-5 in the Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus.
The students will showcase their talents in performance of material they have worked on throughout the year as well as new selections prepared for this concert.
SFCC Jazz Runners will perform a variety of musical styles from Big Band standards to Latin-flavored jazz selections. Featured selections include the classic charts “Birdland” and “A String of Pearls” as well as the contemporary “Conga.”
The Chamber Choir will perform a kaleidoscope of selections ranging from the subtle homage to a rose, “Dirait-on,” to the rhythmically driving Carl Orff selection “O Fortuna” from Carmina Burana, and concluding with the Paul Simon classic “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”
The Jazz Choir will sing familiar standards from the golden age of jazz such as Cole Porter’s “It’s De-Lovely,” Ethel Water’s hit “Stormy Weather” and an original jazz chart titled “Doctor Doom.”
Directors are Britt Faaborg, adjunct instructor, and Ron Sayer, Music Arts program coordinator and instructor. The choirs are accompanied by Gwen Kappelman.
