The brutal cold and strong winds challenged the Sacred Heart golf team Monday during the first round of Class 1 state competition at Paradise Point in Smithville. 

Perseverance gave the girls a team score of 404, finishing the day in first place, edging out Brookfield’s team score of 469.

Caten Lucchesi led Sacred Heart with an 87, placing her 2nd in the individual competition, closely following the 1st place finisher- Summit Christian Academy’s Lilli Stallings’ score of 86.

Kelsey Hudson brought in a 103, in a tie for 17th place.  Kate Carney carded a 105, Megan Wingerter a 109, and Addy Trammell with a 115.

Other local participants in the Class 1 State Golf Tournament include Riley Bright from Cole Camp with a 103, Addie Berry from Green Ridge with a 106, and Brooke Anderson from Cole Camp with a 115.

Second round of play began Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
