The Sacred Heart boys soccer team lost to Odessa 2-3 in the semi-final round of Class 2,  District 6 soccer action Tuesday night.

In a battle between the second (Odessa) and third (SH) seeded teams of the tournament, the Gremlins were first to get on the scoreboard after freshman Gabriel Malacara was fouled inside the box. Junior Jackson Manning executed the PK for a 1-0 lead for the Gremlins.

Odessa quickly answered with a goal about 90 seconds later.

With less than 10 minutes left in the first half, the Bulldogs scored on a PK and five minutes later scored again making the score 1-3 at halftime.

The score remained the same for the majority of the second half.  Sacred Heart pressed hard and made many shots on goal until with 2:22 remaining junior Jackson Manning finally got one past the goalie.

“The Gremlins played with intensity trying to tie the score, but it was just too late. A heart-breaking end of the season for the team that expected another match against Marshall for the district championship,” commented the coach.

Odessa is now 11-8 and move on to sectionals.
