Smith-Cotton High School’s DECA chapter has once again achieved re-certification at the National Gold level for its food and retail operations.

This recognition highlights the continued excellence of the school’s business, entrepreneurial and marketing programs, which encourage students to excel in real-world business practices.

Ashlyn Gerlt and Malaki Reed, representing Tiger Tailgate, and Josie Peck and Madison Rettke, representing Tiger Threads, were recognized for their hard work in proving that their respective businesses uphold the rigorous standards set by National DECA.

“This is a huge accomplishment for our DECA chapter,” said Kassie Nickel, Smith-Cotton’s DECA advisor. “Ashlyn, Malaki, Josie, and Madison worked incredibly hard to find evidence and supporting documents to ensure our two businesses maintain Gold status.

Not only writing these SBE papers, but all four students also took on an additional DECA project ensuring their ride from the District level to Nationals. The opportunity to compete at Nationals will be an incredible experience for them and I cannot wait for the memories."
