Classrooms always have their own “special” feel, but is it the same at the junior high level? I don’t think so.
Recently, I had the opportunity to partner with one of the teachers, Ms. Carrie Martin, to create something we call Storefront Posters.
So, what is a Storefront Poster? These are posters I designed for Ms. Martin’s classroom to be used as signs for different learning “stations.” Each station is set up to help students work through real-world situations while completing their schoolwork. As students move through the stations, they practice skills like using money, figuring out how much of something they need, and learning how to take care of materials in the classroom.
These activities go beyond just schoolwork, they connect to everyday life. Students can apply these skills at home, in a grocery store, in a garden, at a zoo, and more. There is so much they are learning all at once, often without even realizing it.
I am very grateful I had the chance to help with this classroom project. It also helped me grow in my CAPS class and brought me one step closer to what I want to do in the future. This experience showed me that projects like this can be challenging, but also incredibly rewarding. I’m thankful for all the people I met along the way.
Thank you to Ms. Carrie Martin and to the students I worked with. I’ve never had a better experience working with a group of people.
As always, thank you to KSIS for making these articles possible!
