Suspect Arrested After Interstate Shooting In Montgomery County
At 3:31 p.m. on April 7, 2020, members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a shooting on eastbound Interstate 70, near the 175-mile marker, in Montgomery County.
A preliminary investigation indicated the driver of a passenger car had fired shots from a moving vehicle, striking and disabling another vehicle, which was also traveling eastbound. After the shooting, the victim’s vehicle came to rest in the median near the 175-mile marker. The victim’s vehicle was occupied by three people; no injuries were reported. Troopers learned that after the victim’s vehicle came to a stop, two tractor-trailer drivers parked their trucks around the van to shield it from additional gun fire. The suspect in the passenger car fled the area, ultimately traveling westbound on Interstate 70.
A short time later, troopers located the suspect’s vehicle near the intersection of U.S. 63 and Interstate 70, in Boone County, Missouri. The driver and sole occupant, Chad Michael Kennedy, 28, Boonville, was taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery County Jail.
On the afternoon of April 8, 2020, Kennedy was formally charged in Montgomery County Circuit Court with three counts of assault first degree, one count of armed criminal action and six counts of unlawful use of a weapon. The court denied Kennedy bond.
The investigation is being conducted by members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control and deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department.
The above charges are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
