Two Residents, Two Firefighters Injured in JoCo Fire
Two residents and two firefighters were injured in a house fire Sunday morning southeast of Warrensburg, according to the Johnson County Fire Protection District.
Firefighters were dispatched at 10:34 a.m., to a residence in the 300 block of SE 251 Road (southeast of the Highway 13 bypass) for a report of a house fire with occupants still inside.
Before firefighters arrived, both occupants were able to exit the home.
Firefighters arrived to find the residence heavily involved in flames.
As they began attacking the fire, two firefighters inside the residence were injured, but were able to exit the structure.
They were treated and released at the scene.
“Two males who were inside the house when the fire started were transported from the scene by ambulance for their injuries related to the fire,” said Captain Joe Jennings. “We don’t have an update on them after they were transported.”
Four district stations responded to extinguish the fire, which took approximately one hour to bring under control.

Noting the agency losing Captain Vernon Collett in the line of duty on Saturday, Captain Jennings added, “Our personnel are still showing up, still putting in the work—even in the face of loss. They push forward because that’s what they do—for each other, for the community, and for those we’ve lost. They’ve been together all weekend supporting each other and that just continued onto another fire scene today.”
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Missouri State Fire Marshal.
