An early morning fire destroyed a rural Warrensburg home on Saturday, leaving the residence a total loss.

All occupants escaped safely, but two family dogs died in the fire.

Johnson County Fire Protection District (JCFPD) crews were dispatched at 3:58 a.m., to the 300 block of SW 101 Road after a report that the house was completely engulfed. Firefighters arrived to find the structure fully involved.

No human injuries were reported. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.

Firefighters from three JCFPD stations responded, with mutual aid provided by the Warrensburg Fire Department.

Crews on scene were supported by the Johnson County Volunteer Fire Auxiliary and Johnson County Ambulance District.

Investigators determined the fire was caused by discarded cigarettes on an outdoor porch.
