Sacred Heart Varsity Softball defeated Stover 16-0 on Monday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout.

Keely Elwell struck out Belt to finish off the game.

Emma Siron helped lead Sacred Heart to victory with three walks. SH scored seven runs in the sixth inning. The big inning was thanks to walks by Elwell and Maria Mergen, singles by Karen Cisneros and Siron, and by Sammy Altena .

Emma Schouten was the winning pitcher for Sacred Heart. The righty surrendered zero runs on one hit over five innings, striking out 12 and walking zero. Elwell threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

The Stover Bulldogs surrendered nine runs on seven hits over five innings, striking out six.

Sacred Heart socked one home run on the day. Zoe Martin went deep in the second inning and showed her speed on the base path with an in the park homerun. Claire Smeltzer went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Sacred Heart in hits. Sacred Heart didn't commit a single error in the field. Altena had the most defensive chances in the field with 16. Veronica Vanegas led SH with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with 13 stolen bases.

The Varsity is now 1-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play on the season.


Sacred Heart Gremlin JV Softball Beats Out Stover To Remain Undefeated

Sacred Heart Softball JV blew out Stover 10-2 on Monday. In the first inning, Sacred Heart got their offense started. Sammy Altena was hit by a pitch, driving in a run. The Gremlins tallied four runs in the fourth inning. Sacred Heart's big bats in the inning were led by a single by Olivia Dobson and a double by Emily McDonald.

Keely Elwell was the winning pitcher for Sacred Heart Gremlin Softball 2021 JV. Zoe Martin and Karen Cisneros entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

The Sacred Heart JV collected 11 hits. Elwell, Kiley Beykirch, and Cisneros each racked up multiple hits for the Gremlins. Cisneros, Beykirch, and Elwell all had two hits to lead Sacred Heart.
