When I was a kid if my spring break was a different week than that of my parents, who were both teachers.

I had a baby-sitter. And when I got older I was on my own. If you live in Warrensburg, Warrensburg Parks and Recreation can help you out by occupying your kids with their Spring Break Camp.

Spring Break Camp runs from Monday March 15 - Friday March 19 between the hours of 8:00 AM -5:00 PM CST. Campers will enjoy various activities like swimming, gym games, movies, Mario Kart and crafts. Lunch and snacks for the campers will be provided. Spring Break Camp is designed for kids in grades kindergarten through seventh grade.

As a kid I didn't mind it when I had a baby-sitter. When I was little my parents usually hired two sitters. They'd switch off every week. And of course they were friends. So on a day where we didn't have school, the one sitting me, would call the other one and we'd all go out walking around. At some point we'd end up over at the hot dog place a couple of blocks form my house for lunch.

It was the years like fourth through maybe sixth or seventh grade that were tough for me. Sure, my parents were fine leaving me home alone. Yet they didn't want me to leave the house. While my sitters may have dragged me to the boot store or the jeans store before we went to lunch. At least we were out doing things.

Being stuck at home with only the TV to keep me entertained got frustrating. Reruns of "The Love Boat" and "Love American Style" every morning, followed by "The Great Space Coaster" and "The Brady Bunch" and cartoons every afternoon was fun on Monday, less so on Friday.

What I like about Warrensburg Parks and Recreation's Spring Break Camp is you can sign your kids up for the whole week. Or maybe a day or two. I would have appreciated hanging out in a gym. Or swimming. Or watching movies. Or just being with kids a couple of those days I was stuck at home bored to death watching the exploits of Gopher and Doc Bricker on "The Love Boat" with half the story lines going over my head.

The cost for Spring Break Camp is $105.00 for the entire week or $30 dollars a day. Camp runs from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM CST, however kids can be dropped off as early as 6:30 AM CST, and pick up runs from 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM CST. Camp is being held at the Warrensburg Community Center. Space is limited and you can learn more and sign up here.
