An airman has been sentenced to four years in prison in the fatal shooting of another airman at a home near Whiteman Air Force Base.

The Sedalia Democrat reports that 22-year-old Dominic Sacco, of Knob Noster, was sentenced Monday in Johnson County for first-degree involuntary manslaughter in the death of 22-year-old John J. Bottom.

Both Sacco and Bottom were assigned to the 509th Security Forces Squadron.

A probable cause statement says Sacco took out a handgun in May while drinking alcohol and shot Bottom once in the head. Bottom was rushed to a Kansas City hospital, where he later was declared brain dead.

Whiteman says that besides Sacco and the victim, two other people in the home at the time of the shooting also were assigned to the base.
