As much as 'Community' fans found themselves dismayed to learn that series star Donald Glover would take a reduced role in season 5, the situation became exponentially more complicated the other day as the rapper/actor/comedian left a bizarre series of Instagram notes both justifying his exit from the cult NBC comedy, and exposing a number of other fears. Now, Glover has broken his silence to explain the troubling behavior.

"That night, we had a show, and then afterwards, I had this moment of feeling like, 'What's the point? Why am I even here?' " Glover told People magazine, denying that he had been suffering from depression, or that the notes were cause for concern. "I just wanted to write down my feelings. I definitely was just expressing myself."

In addition to claiming that his motivations for leaving 'Community' behind after five episodes had nothing to do with his rap career as "Childish Gambino," Glover had also expressed fears about his parents' mortality, his public image and even his standing with 'Community' creator Dan Harmon. Said Glover of the need to vent to his follower:

I was just tired of telling people I was tired. It felt like every day someone would ask, 'What's wrong. Are you OK?'. And I would say, 'I'm tired, I'm tired.' I didn't want to do that anymore. I guess sometimes not telling the truth is just as bad as telling a lie.

Curiously however, Glover declined further explanation of his reasons for leaving 'Community' behind. It remains to be seen when NBC will schedule the fifth season of the series, given the currently-struggling Thursday lineup, but in the meantime, what say you? Do you buy that Glover simply needed an outlet, or have we not heard the last of the 'Community' star's troubles?
