The Columbia Daily Tribune is reporting that a search for a man who apparently disappeared from a Moniteau County campsite has been called off for now.

35-year-old Christopher E. Preuitt had reportedly left the Sedalia area to go camping on the Missouri River. The last time he spoke to his friends was on March 22. Preuitt's vehicle was discovered parked near the Missouri River at Huntsdale. The Tribune is reporting that the Moniteau County Sheriff's Office has suspended the search, saying they’ve used "all the resources they can on it.” The case remains open.

On Saturday, the Moniteau County Sheriff’s Office was notified by Boone County, of a person that was reported missing in Boone County on the Missouri River near Huntsdale. Preuitt's vehicle, a 2000 gold Mazda 626, was discovered parked near the Missouri River at Huntsdale, with no one around, according authorities. Boone County then located a campsite across the river on Tadpole Island, just inside Moniteau County. The sheriff’s office was then notified, and deputies  proceeded to the area.

The Moniteau County Sheriff’s Office and Boone County then searched the area around the island and the river until nighttime on Saturday, with no sign of Preuitt.

Then on Sunday, Moniteau County Sheriff’s deputies proceeded back to the area with the assistance of Missouri State Highway Patrol, Air and Water units, and continued the search along with family and friends of Preuitt.

They searched Tadpole Island by foot and reportedly located items believed to belong to Mr. Preuitt. By late afternoon the search concluded, with searchers covering most of the area.

Mr. Preuitt is described as a white male, 5’6” tall, weighing approx. 140 pounds, brown hair, brown eyes, with a possible goatee and glasses.

If anyone has any information on the subject, they are urged to contact the Moniteau County or Boone County Sheriff’s Office, at 573 796-2525, or the nearest law enforcement agency.
