All the Winners at the 2017 MTV Movie and TV Awards

MTV Movie and TV Awards
MTV

Since Dennis Miller hosted the very first MTV Movie Awards back in 1992, the music channel’s annual award ceremony has been something of a fun dalliance into a world where the artistic merit of a movie is less important than its popular clout. This year marks a couple of big changes for the format: not only did the award show change its official name  —  it is now known as the MTV Movie & TV Awards  —  it also has become arguably the most inclusive award show to date, honoring titles like Moonlight, Get Out, and Jane the Virgin alongside its stalwart categories like Best Kiss and Best Villain.

The big winners of the night were the recent remake of Beauty and the Best (which took home Best Movie and Best Actor for Emma Watson) and the Netflix series Stranger Things, which won the first-ever Best Show award, plus Best Actor for star Millie Bobby Brown. Hidden Figures also took home two awards for Best Hero and Best Fight Against the System. There weren’t a ton of standout moments, although the memories of Anthony Hopkins calling Mark Wahlberg “dude” in the new Transformers: The Last Knight trailer will last a lifetime. At a certain point they started rushing through the awards; host Adam Devine began literally handing out popcorn buckets to people in the audience and several categories weren’t even announced on air.

Tonight’s crowded list of nominees and winners) represent some pretty excellent movies and shows, and even some pretty fun categories  —  I’m particularly fond of the Best Duo one myself  —  to amuse those tired of the same six or seven basic offerings from every other award show. Do you have any favorites in the bunch?
