Parents Voice Security Concerns at Sedalia School Board Meeting [POLL]

Empty Classroom

The Sedalia #200 School Board met at Smith Cotton High School Monday night (Dec. 17).  While there were other items on the agenda, the one that brought more than 40 parents to the meeting was the “Security and Safety Update.”

Several of the parents went to the podium to express their concerns, and ask for assurances from the board and staff that their child would be safe. Superintendent of Sedalia Schools Dr. Harriet Wolfe, and Assistant Superintendent for Sedalia Schools Brad Pollitt stated that while nothing is 100%, they felt the students were safe in the schools.

Some of the parents thanked the board and staff for their handling of the situation, but said they would still keep their children home on Friday, Dec. 21. The Board, Dr. Wolfe, and Pollitt echoed the same message, stating that a parent should do whatever they personally felt was right for their situation.

Dr. Wolfe also said she felt it was important that the schools should be open Friday, with classes held as usual.
