Sedalia Police Reports For September 5, 2023

Saturday night, Officers were dispatched to the Police Station lobby to speak with Emily Davis regarding a theft. Davis stated she was at the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard about an hour previously, when her iPhone 14 was stolen. There are no suspects at this time.

Monday evening, Officers responded to the Eagle Stop store, 3415 East Broadway Boulevard in reference to an intoxicated subject. Officers contacted the subject, who was highly intoxicated. Officers believed he was unfit to care for himself. Sergei S. Gladush Jr., 44, Homeless, was taken into custody for Safekeeping. Gladush was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 12-hour protective custody hold.

On the night of August 31st, The Sedalia Police Department was contacted by the Dumas Independent School District in Dumas, Texas. The call was regarding an incident of harassment and forged documents. An investigation was initiated, and ultimately a request for charges of Forgery and Harassment have been sent the Pettis County Prosecutor for review.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the area of East Broadway Boulevard and South New York Avenue in reference to a two vehicle crash with injuries last Thursday afternoon. Investigation revealed a northbound 2012 Nissan Murano, driven by Ronald Mitchell of Houstonia, entered the intersection and failed to yield to a westbound 1998 Peterbilt, which was driven by Blaine Winkler of Lincoln. The Nissan struck the trailer of the Peterbilt and then traveled off the northwest side of the intersection. The Nissan struck a tree, coming to rest. The Nissan sustained heavy damage to the front end. The trailer of the Peterbilt had minor damage. Mitchell suffered moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to the BRHC by PCAD.

Late Sunday night, Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of West 35th Street Terrace for a physical disturbance. It was determined a male subject had assaulted his girlfriend and her mother. Deng Joseph Mengelkamp, 19, of Sedalia, was arrested for Domestic Assault in the 2nd Degree. Mengelkamp was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold.

Sedalia Police were on Patrol in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and South Kentucky Avenue Sunday evening when they observed a vehicle disobey the eastbound stop sign at South Kentucky Avenue and West 9th Street. As Officers drove behind the vehicle, they noticed it had an improper license plate. Officers stopped the vehicle near the area of West 9th Street and South Ohio Avenue. Investigation revealed the driver was driving while intoxicated, and had a suspended license. Travis Eugene Ballew, 43, of Sedalia, was arrested for felony Driving While Revoked, and Driving While Intoxicated (Prior Offender). Ballew was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was placed on a 24-hour hold.

Sunday morning, Officers stopped a 2018 Chevy Malibu in the 1700 block of West Broadway Boulevard, for speeding. A check of the driver’s information with Dispatch indicated the driver had a Failure to Appear warrant out of Lee’s Summit from 2018 on original charges of Speeding. Sharron Lovel Dawon, 31, of Olathe Kansas, was arrested for her warrant. Dawson was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released with a new court date.

On the evening of September 1st, Officers responded to the 1800 block of South Barrett Avenue in reference to a disturbance. Officers attempted to speak with the reporting party, but she was uncooperative. Officers checked her information with Dispatch, and she was found to have an active Cooper County Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Driving While Intoxicated. Alexa Rachael Haskew, 38, of Sedalia, was arrested on her warrant, as well as felony charges of Assault in the 3rd Degree as well as felony Resisting Arrest. Haskew was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked, with a $243 cash only bond on the FTA warrant.

Officers were dispatched to the area of West 3rd Street and South State Fair Avenue for a report of gunshots or possible fireworks being heard south of that location Saturday night. While checking the surrounding area, Officers observed fireworks in a driveway and along the edge of the roadway in the area of West 5th Street and South Woodlawn Drive. Contact was made with the resident, who admitted to shooting off the fireworks. William Matthew Davis, 39, of Sedalia, was arrested for Discharge of Fireworks. Davis was cited and released on scene.

Saturday night, Officers responded to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, for a report of a hit and run accident. The suspect party returned to the scene, and no charges are being sought for leaving the scene of the accident. Items collected at the scene will be placed into evidence holding.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 200 block of East 25th Street Saturday morning in reference to a theft report. Officers spoke with Ervin E. Spry, who stated someone stole some items from his residence while he was sleeping. No suspects have been identified at this time.

Officers were dispatched to the Little Caesar’s Pizza, 2125 West Broadway Boulevard Saturday morning. The call was about a hit and run that occurred in the overnight hours. A parked blue in color 2016 Ford Fusion was struck by an unknown vehicle on the left back side. The striking vehicle left the scene.

Officers responded to the scene of a two-vehicle accident with injuries in the area of Winchester Boulevard and West Broadway Boulevard Friday evening. During the crash investigation, it was determined the driver of one of the vehicles had a suspended driving status. Juan Carlos Enquire* Pana Coc, 35, of Sedalia, was arrested, then cited for Driving While Suspended as well as Failure to Yield to the Right of Way. Pana Coc was then released from the scene.

Friday afternoon, Officers took a missing person report over the telephone. The reporting party stated the male subject fled the area of South Lamine Avenue and East 4th Street.  He was listed as missing. Officers took a report at the Bothwell Hospital, 601 West 14th Street in reference to the same missing person the same day. Officers spoke to the reporting party, who stated a male subject fled the hospital. He was quickly located, and found to have an active Pettis County warrant for his arrest. Mark Timothy Prall Sr., 61, of Sedalia, was arrested for his warrant on charges of Property Damage in the 2nd Degree.

Sedalia Police responded to the Burger King restaurant, 1101 South Limit Avenue Saturday morning for a report of domestic assault. A primary physical aggressor was determined. A computer check through Dispatch revealed him to have an active Benton County warrant for his arrest. Toliver T. Campbell, 33, of Cole Camp, was arrested for his FTA warrant on original charges of Failure to Register a Motor Vehicle, as well as new charges of Domestic Assault. Campbell was transported to the Pettis County Jail pending a cash only bond on the FTA warrant in the amount of $84.50.

Last Thursday afternoon, the Mid Missouri Drug Task Force stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of West Front Street in La Monte. They then requested assistance from the Sedalia Police Department’s K9 Unit. K9 Rocky responded to the scene, where a sniff of the free air was performed around the vehicle. Rocky alerted to the odor of narcotics. A probable cause search of the vehicle was performed, which resulted in the recovery of items associated with illegal drug activity. There was no further information in the report.

Friday afternoon, Officers responded to the Sedalia Police Department in reference to a found property report. Officers spoke with William Vance, who stated he found a cell phone in the 400 block of South Lamine Avenue.
