The Sedalia Post Office will host a “Passport Fair” this weekend.

The Post Office will offer extended hours on Saturday, September 23, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A press release from the Post Office says that extra staff will also be on-hand in an effort to assist travelers with preparations for international and domestic travels, as the REAL ID Act is not yet in effect.

“Passport applicants must apply in person so many customers, especially families with children, appreciate the convenience of Saturday hours,” said Beth Grother.  “With just one visit to the Post Office, the passport application process can be completed.”

The Post Office says that applicants must provide an Application for Passport” Form DS-11. The forms can be downloaded at usps.com/passport. To save time, the form can be completed and brought to the Passport Fair, although the forms will also be available at the fair.

Applicants, including infants, must present a proof of U.S. citizenship: a previous U.S. passport or a certified birth certificate issued by a city, county or state, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad, a Certification of Birth, a Naturalization Certificate, or a Certificate of Citizenship. A picture ID is also required. For more information about passport requirements, click here.

Grother recommends visiting the Post Office as early as possible to apply for your passport. She suggests at least 2 months or earlier before your departure, to avoid any extra costs involved in expediting applications.

The Sedalia Post Office is located at 405 E. 5th Street.
